The One Health Workshop is organized in collaboration with Center for Global Studies & Center on Health, Aging & Learning, UIUC and several students and faculty from different departments. The goal of the workshop is to discuss international and national level One Health research opportunities, unveil a new course that uses One health approaches to tackle infectious diseases and to disseminate the One Health concept to students, faculty and researchers.

This interdisciplinary seminar course introduces One Health as an increasingly important approach to a holistic understanding of the prevention of disease and maintenance of both human and animal health. Topics include discussion of bi-directional impact of animal health on human health, the impact of earth’s changing ecology on health, issues of food and water security and preparedness, and the benefits of comparative medicine.

Lincoln Memorial University sponsored a two-day event in September focusing on One Health in Appalachia. The event was organized by the Center for Animal and Human Health in Appalachia along with faculty and students from campus. The event featured about 900 participants from six colleges on campus, South College School of Pharmacy, invited guests, and speakers. The student-centric event featured lectures, an interprofessional activity where students solved a case involving a patient and her dog as well as small group vignettes where students worked on One Health issues together.
