Michigan State University’s Canadian Studies Center will host activities during the week of International One Health Day from Oct 30 thru Nov 5, 2018. Multidisciplinary partners include on-campus and off-campus connections with veterinary and human medicine, agriculture and natural resources, environmental sciences and policy, social sciences and engineering. These activities will inform and promote the One Health Model for maintaining health, preventing health issues, and addressing health-related problems while understanding the connections among people, animals, and the environment.

We all know taking medication as your healthcare professional prescribes is important, including antibiotics (medications used to fight bacterial infections), to help ensure our recovery from sickness. But what if after you took the medication properly, it did not work and your infection persisted? Your health outcome could be quite serious and you’d be at an increased risk for infecting others. Sounds pretty terrible, right? Well, this is basically the premise for antibiotic and antimicrobial resistance.

Human, animal, and environmental health are all connected, but how? Hear our panel of veterinarians discuss how they work across fields to predict, stop and prevent infectious disease outbreaks, like Ebola, avian flu, and more.
