For 55 years, the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine (SBMT) has held MedTrop (Congress of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine) a large and important multidisciplinary event, which in September 2020 will hold its 56th edition in the city of Belém do Pará, where at the same time, it will have the Applied Research Meeting on Chagas Disease and Leishmaniasis (Chagasleish), the Malaria Research Meeting and the workshop on vectors of tropical diseases (Entomol).
This major event annually brings together specialists, researchers and professionals from different areas of work related to Tropical Medicine, such as: doctors, biologists, biomedicals, pharmacists, veterinarians, ecologists, sanitary engineers, sociologists, entomologists, geographers, historians, public health technicians , legislators, nurses, statisticians, etc. It also has the participation of a large number of undergraduate and graduate students, linked to various programs in the areas of biological sciences, medicine and public health, which represent the renewal and continuity of this great community that Brazil has built over the years. six decades of SBMT's activity.
This multidisciplinarity of SBMT and the meetings it promotes has made possible the in-depth discussion of several topics related to tropical medicine, surveillance and new therapeutic approaches to various tropical and neglected diseases that affect the Brazilian community, such as arboviruses, malaria, leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, among others, which have had a positive impact on the quality of life and health care provided to affected populations in recent years and are at risk of acquiring these diseases.
The city of Belém do Pará, will be pleased to host for the 4th time, a new edition of MedTrop. One of the main cities in the Northern region of Brazil, which has important research institutions in the area of tropical and neglected diseases, will contribute with a wide experience of its participants for a greater aggrandizement of the event, as always happened in its historical series, meeting annually about 3,000 people eager for knowledge and scientific news within the theme of the event.
In 2020, the central theme of the Congress will be “Tropical diseases and neglected populations: the challenge of knowing, monitoring and caring”, which will include a broad and current scientific program with diverse approaches to basic studies, clinical trials and cohort studies, advances in epidemiological diagnosis and surveillance, treatment and control of infectious and parasitic diseases, with special emphasis on diseases of neglected populations, among others.
The warm and hospitable people of Pará take great pride and pleasure in hosting the SBMT congress again, facing the challenge that tropical diseases and neglected populations represent to the world, but with the certainty of making this a grand and remarkable event for everyone.
