On September 28th, 2024, secondary students of West Career & Technical Academy (WCTA) Operation Outbreak Club in Las Vegas hosted a One Health Day event: Exploring Outbreak Education. During the 1-day convention, we aimed to increase awareness of various facets of outbreak science and their impacts on individual and community health. The event was free and open to the public, including a complimentary breakfast, lunch, and One Health Day T-shirt for in-person attendees at the WCTA campus. Alternatively, virtual attendees had access to links for keynote and workshop sessions.
We held an interactive simulation to model outbreak spread courtesy of Operation Outbreak housed at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Attendees explored workshops of their choice covering aspects of public health, veterinary science, ecological science, and policy. Our workshops included Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) representatives, University of Las Vegas (UNLV) professors, Broad Institute researchers, and Nevada state politicians in addition to local health professionals.
