The One Health concept is based on the recognition of the need to approach health policies and practices from a perspective of interdependence and compromise between people, animals and the environment. From this perspective ethical questions emerge about the goodness of the concept and the practices of its implementation in the pursuit of better health for people and planet.

The 2nd Egas Moniz One Health Symposium will be held on November 3rd, to celebrate the One Health Day. This event will offer an opportunity to deepen the networking on One Health related areas of intervention. In fact, a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach, cutting across boundaries of animal, human and environmental health is imperative, requesting from the scientists, policymakers, health professionals, and society, actions that improve health outcomes and well-being of humans, animals, plants and their shared environment. These actions are urgent!

Wildlife, namely the iconic Iberian Wolf, conservation is essential in the One Health perspective. Likewise, One Health must not forget wildlife as spill-over of infectious agents is growing together with the urbanization of wildlife. On the other side, this urbanization is due to many anthropological alterations that have consequences to environmental, animal and human health. In this meeting we are going to discuss Iberian wolf conservation status, conflicts (with domestic animals and humans), threats and opportunities in Portugal, in the context of One Health.
