One Health Thinking: A Scientific Pathway to Stopping Climate Change and Ensuring Sustainability

The journey of "One Health Thinking," which began with Dr. Rudolf Virchow's research in the second half of the 19th century and continued with his updated foresight, evolved into "One Medicine" a century later in Dr. Calvin Schwabe's "interdisciplinary paradigm." In the last half-century, the search for solutions to complex health problems, accelerated by the "dynamic interactions" occurring at the interface of humans, animals, and the environment, has reached a new phase in Dr. William Karesh's term "One Health." Interdisciplinary scientific collaboration, which the medical profession has matured over nearly 200 years, has evolved into the "transdisciplinary thinking and sustainability" approach, indispensable to the 21st-century health paradigm. The purpose of the conference, "One Health Thinking: A Scientific Pathway to Stopping Climate Change and Ensuring Sustainability", is to explain this process and to emphasize that One Health Thinking is the new paradigm beyond "zoonoses, emerging infections, and other microbial threats."
