What do the arts and humanities have to do with health? Join us this fall to find out!

One Health + Humanities Days: Arts + Humanities Interventions is a three-day series of free public events, including interdisciplinary lectures, speaker panels, and interactive activities, showcasing the critical role that arts and humanities play in understanding and exploring sustainability and global wellbeing, including human, animal, plant, and environmental health.

Humans not only have animal ancestors, shared with modern primates, but, since prehistorical times, have also coexisted and evolved alongside several animal species to adapt to environment. Animals have followed their owners during migrations and the gradual living displacement from rural areas to cities. Animal breeding was soon flanked by domestication, to provide protection and help people in every day civil and military life, then company, and finally, to animal application to activities aimed at safeguarding human life and health, thus creating privileged bonds.

One Health Day 2023 is being recognized on November 3 by our team with a presentation to student trainees from the Respiratory Training Program in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Colleen Anne Dell and therapy dog Molly will present on and demonstrate Zooeyia - the health benefits of pets in humans’ lives. They will highlight their team’s work with therapy dogs for people who do not have access to a pet; ranging from a controlled trail in a hospital emergency department through to visiting at a hospice with patients and their families.
