As the December holidays approach, the South African public and travelers are warned about rabies in dogs, Cape fur seals and other mammals in South Africa. Rabies is endemic in South Africa and has recently been confirmed in the Cape fur seal population. This virus poses a risk to both animals and humans, as rabies can spread through bites, scratches or contact with infected saliva.
