What is your plan for this year One Health Day? The Blue Vet is proud to announce that we have Dr. Samson Leta for world One Health Day on October 30, 2025. For this year One Health Day we choose to discuss Rift Valley Fever (RVF), one of the priority zoonotic diseases in Ethiopia. Dr. Samson is an associate Professor of Biostatistics and Spatial Epidemiology at Addis Ababa University. With a PhD in Bioscience Engineering from KU Leuven, Dr. Samson is a continental leader in spatial disease modeling, vector surveillance, and molecular diagnostics. Dr. Samson Leta’s research focuses on the quantitative analysis and spatial modeling of infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on vector-borne and transboundary animal diseases. His doctoral work advanced arboviral vector surveillance in Ethiopia through the integration of environmental DNA (eDNA), mosquito barcoding, and CRISPR-Cas technologies. Dr. Samson has extensive experience in biostatistical modeling, spatial epidemiology, and disease risk mapping, and has published widely in these areas. His scientific contributions aim to strengthen data-driven approaches for the surveillance, prevention, and control of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. Dr. Yimesgen Tarekegn, co-founder of The Blue Vet will be moderating the session. Our session will explore: 1. CRISPR-Cas and eDNA innovations in arboviral vector surveillance 2. GIS-based risk mapping for transboundary animal diseases 3. Biostatistical modeling for emerging zoonoses 4. One Health strategies for integrated disease control The virtual event will spotlight Ethiopia’s scientific leadership and the power of interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex health challenges across human, animal, and environmental domains.
